As it has already been mentioned, the matter of end time events revealed through prophetic utterance is not easy to follow . Prophecy originates in the OT prophets but many times is only a piece or two of the picture or entire event. Ezekiel, Daniel, Zachariah, Isaiah, and the minor prophets and the Lord’s Apostles also had insight into end time events. These prophetic words are like a mosaic or pieces to a puzzle. Today we will put three more pieces in the puzzle and our understanding will increase as the mosaic takes shape.
Three battles over Jerusalem : The 1st Battle
In the middle of Daniel’s 70th week , 3 1/2 years or 42 months in to it, the Antichrist will break his covenant with Israel. Then Israel will know the covenant that was promoted for peace, will in affect be a covenant of death.
Isa 28:18 Your covenant with death will be annulled, And your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
When the overflowing scourge passes through,Then you will be trampled down by it. NKJV
Dan 9:24 “A period of seventy sets of seven{ years } has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One—comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.
26 “After this period of sixty two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. 27 The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.” NLT
Events that will happen as soon as Antichrist breaks the covenant with Israel at the 3 ½ year point.
* The Antichrist who came to power by deception and by pretending to be a man of peace will cause Israel to think that they are safe and secure. Daniel 11:21-24, Eze 38:8-12, 1 Thess 5:3
* Antichrist will break his covenant with Israel at the 3 ½ year point and immediately attack Jerusalem and conquer it and set an image of himself in the temple and demand to be worshiped as god.
2 Thess 2:3-4, Matt 24:15-22
* Two out of three people in Jerusalem will be killed and those which escape will be purified through
suffering. Zech13:8-9, Matt 24:9,
* While Jerusalem is being attacked by Antichrist, war will break out in heaven and Satan and his angels will be cast down to the earth with great wrath to persecute the woman { national Israel } and her offspring that have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Rev 12: 7-17
The Second battle of Jerusalem in the Valley of Jehoshaphat
The second battle over Jerusalem will occur just before “ The day of the Lord’s Wrath ” begins. The battle will occur between the fifth and sixth seal. The prophet Joel and Zachariah prophesied of this event.
Joel 3:1 “At the time of those events,” says the Lord, “when I restore the prosperity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will gather the armies of the world into the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will judge them
for harming my people, my special possession ,for scattering my people among the nations, and for dividing up my land.3 They cast lots to decide which of my people would be their slaves. They traded boys to obtain prostitutes and sold girls for enough wine to get drunk. NLT
Zech 14:2 I will gather all the nations to fight against Jerusalem. The city will be taken, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the population will be taken into captivity, and the rest will be left among the ruins of the city. NLT
Joel 3:9 Say to the nations far and wide:”Get ready for war! Call out your best warriors. Let all your fighting men advance for the attack.10 Hammer your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Train even your weaklings to be warriors.11 Come quickly, all you nations everywhere. Gather together in the valley.” And now, O Lord, call out your warriors! 12 “Let the nations be called to arms. Let them march to the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I, the Lord, will sit to pronounce judgment on them all.13 Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread the grapes, for the winepress is full. The storage vats are overflowing with the wickedness of these people.” 14 Thousands upon thousands are waiting in the valley of decision. There the day of the Lord will soon arrive.15 The sun and moon will grow dark ,and the stars will no longer shine.16 The Lord’s voice will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth will shake. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people ,a strong fortress for the people of Israel. NLT
Zech 12:4 “On that day,” says the Lord, “I will cause every horse to panic and every rider to lose his nerve. I will watch over the people of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of their enemies. 5 And the clans of Judah will say to themselves, ‘The people of Jerusalem have found strength in the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, their God.’ 6 “On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a flame that sets a woodpile ablaze or like a burning torch among sheaves of grain. They will burn up all the neighboring nations right and left, while the people living in Jerusalem remain secure. NLT
Immediately following second battle of Jerusalem, the signs of the second coming of Christ will begin to appear.
Rev 6:12 I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood. 13 Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places.
15 Then everyone—the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person—all hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?” NLT
The Final Battle over Jerusalem is the Battle of Armageddon, which will be fought 30 days after the 1260 days of Daniel’s 70th prophetic week.
Isa 34:1 Come here and listen, O nations of the earth. Let the world and everything in it hear my words.
2 For the Lord is enraged against the nations. His fury is against all their armies. He will completely destroy them, dooming them to slaughter. 3 Their dead will be left unburied, and the stench of rotting bodies will fill the land. The mountains will flow with their blood. NLT
Seven months to bury the dead because of the size of the army.
Ezek 39:1 “Son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign Lord: I am your enemy, O Gog, ruler of the nations of Meshech and Tubal. 2 I will turn you around and drive you toward the mountains of Israel, bringing you from the distant north. 3 I will knock the bow from your left hand and the arrows from your right hand, and I will leave you helpless. 4 You and your army and your allies will all die on the mountains. I will feed you to the vultures and wild animals. 5 You will fall in the open fields, for I have spoken, says the Sovereign Lord. 12 It will take seven months for the people of Israel to bury the bodies and cleanse the land. 13 Everyone in Israel will help, for it will be a glorious victory for Israel when I demonstrate my glory on that day, says the Sovereign Lord. NLT
The Antichrist and the false prophet are captured and cast alive into the lake of fire.
Rev 19:19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies. NLT
God’s kingdom will then endure forever.
Dan 2:44 “During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever. NLT
