Understanding the Unseen: Part 1

This sermon is part 1 of 5 in the series Understanding the Unseen

We as God’s people should be aware of the unseen forces that are attempting to effect our lives for the good or the bad. Some bring us closer to God others are trying to separate us from the kingdom of God.

Originally God was creator of this world and He gave dominion of it to Adam and Eve. However, they failed as stewards of this world and because of their sin of disobedience Satan is now the god of this world.

The original state of the world after the six days of creation was perfect, no sin, all was in harmony

with the creator. It appears from this verse that the work of the heavens and those that dwell in them was finished before the earth.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep  NKJV

Gen 1:31 And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it completely. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.               AMP

Neh 9:6 You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven .The heaven of heavens, with all their host,

The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all.

The host of heaven worships You.  NKJV

At the point when the world was created the angels were there and rejoiced over it’s creation.

Job 38: 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. 5 Do you know how its dimensions were determined, and who did the surveying? 6‑7 What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone as the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? TLB

It appears from scripture that there was an angelic rebellion after  Genesis 1: 31 and

Genesis3: 1 when Eve was deceived . Just how much time between these two events transpired is not given.

2 Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;

Jude  5 But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.  NKJV

Results of the rebellion.

Gen 6:1‑2 More and more people were born, until finally they spread all over the earth. Some of their daughters were so beautiful that supernatural beings came down and married the ones they wanted. 3 Then the Lord said, “I won’t let my life‑giving breath remain in anyone forever. No one will live for more than one hundred twenty years.”  4 The children of the supernatural beings who had married these women became famous heroes and warriors. They were called Nephilim and lived on the earth at that time and even later. 5 The Lord saw how bad the people on earth were and that everything they thought and planned was evil. 6 He was very sorry that he had made them, 7 and he said, “I’ll destroy every living creature on earth! I’ll wipe out people, animals, birds, and reptiles. I’m sorry I ever made them.”

8 But the Lord was pleased with Noah,  CEV

Satan is now the god of this world.

2 Cor 4:4 For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.  AMP

Some are reluctant to believe that angels could change from the spiritual realm into the natural

but consider the following scriptures.

Heb 13:2 Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! NLT

2 Cor 11:14For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.  NKJV

Note: According to  Genesis chapter 6 and the Book of Enoch, the giants that were on the earth before the flood were a result of angelic beings marrying human women of the earth.  They  later were know as Nephelium, which means fallen ones or Rephaim , also they were referred to as Anakim, Emim, and Zamzumim, According to Enoch , the Lord pronounced a far reaching curse and judgement against these angels. Enoch was asked to assist the angels who had fallen and to compose a prayer of repentance and to offer it to God. The Lord rejected their prayer of repentance and rebuked them saying, you as angels should be praying for mankind not mankind praying for you!

The judgement was  imprisonment in chains in hell until the Great Judgement Day. The Lord said that their wicked offspring would be slaughtered before their eyes and they would have no peace forever. Enoch wrote that the spirits of these wicked offspring would forever be known as evil spirits that wonder the earth.

Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;

NKJV

Note: According to the Book of Enoch , the women who were willingly  submissive to these angels will also be judged for their part and their great iniquity. Enoch wrote: they will not ever find peace with God.

Jesus Christ has chosen us for redemption , however, He does not identify with the angels which fell.

Heb 2:14 Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought and make of no effect him who had the power of death — that is, the devil —

15 And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.

16 For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand]. [Isa 41:8,9.]    AMP
