The Authority of the Believer Lesson 5

This sermon is part 5 of 6 in the series Authority of the Believer

The bases of this study from the Word of God came through a missionary to China. Bro. John A. MacMillian. The Lord has used his writings to stimulate faith in the body of Christ so that we as the children of God might exercise our God given authority in this world to glorify the Name of Jesus.

Our authority is based on Jesus’ authority. Jesus’ exaltation to the right hand of the Heavenly Father is our exaltation also.

Eph 1:20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,  21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. NKJV

Eph 2:6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, NKJV

We must understand the significance of the positional exaltation so that our inheritance of authority and power will be freely exercised in our lives, both public and private.

Eph 1:15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power { dunameos } toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,  21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.  NKJV

Eph 3:14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,   15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might dunamei } through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height —  19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power { dunamin } that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.   NKJV

The vision of the demon spirit operating between Jesus and the prophet.

Matt 28: 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority { exousia }has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. NKJV

All believers are carrying an awesome powerful weapon so deadly demons shutter to think of it.

However, few realize they are carrying it and even fewer actually use it.

Mark 16:14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.     NKJV

The works of darkness no longer have dominion over us.

Col 1:13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, NIV

Jesus has already done all he is going to do about the devil until he orders the angel to bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit for a 1000 years. Until then, we must exercise our authority over the works of darkness……IN JESUS’ Name for our selves!

Jesus teaches us how to speak forth the word of faith.

Mark 11:20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.  23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.  26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”   NKJV

The point of this illustration is that God’s people want God to do something about the mountain.

However, God says;  you speak to the mountain yourself and command it to be removed in Jesus’

name……..or in other words , use the authority I have already given you.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. NKJV

The will and purpose of God is for his people to reign as kings in this life over circumstances, poverty, disease, and whatever else that tries to hinder us.

Rom 5:17 For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).  AMP

Special note, we have been given authority over all the works of the devil LK 10:19, but we must remember that God has not given us authority over the human spirit. Because humans have been given free moral will to make their own choices. However, this does not stop us from taking authority over the evil spirits that trouble and dominate them in Jesus’ name and claiming the promises of God for their salvation.
