How to prosper in tough times

This sermon is part 1 of 15 in the series Revelation

Introduction

We are called overcomers in the NT;

1 John 2:13 I am writing to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one. 14 I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong.God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one. NLT

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. KJV

We are also referred to as conquerors. Nothing can defeat us when we stay close to God.

Rom 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. NKJV

In Christ we always have the victory.

2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. KJV

Now when the enemy attacks you, you don’t feel like an ovecomer. You might say I know that the bible calls me an overcomer but I feel like I am being overcome by my circumstances.  Then the enemy will try to discourage you by tempting you to give up your confession of faith.

Heb 10:35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, { FAITH }  which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

37 “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”  39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. NKJV

We must remain steadfast in our faith in the Word of God.

Rom 4:20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. 21 He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. 22 And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous. 23 And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn’t just for Abraham’s benefit. It was recorded 24 for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. .  NLT

The law of faith never fails. However, it must be followed closely to receive the benefits.

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. NKJV

Faith and the Word of God are eternally connected and the motivation must be love !

Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. NKJV

Gal 5:6 but faith which worketh by love. KJV

Confessing with our mouth and believing in our heart are cornerstones of our relationship with God.

2 Cor 4:13 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, NKJV

We must absolutely watch our mouth when we are in trying circumstances, because if the enemy can get us to change our confession and retreat from the Word of God,  he has then effectively undermined our faith. We must not stop doing that which the Word of God admonishes us to do……….   even under pressure.

Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. NKJV

Consider that we are not alone in this great fight of faith.

1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. NKJV

Heb 13:5 For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”   6 So we may boldly say:

“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”  NKJV

Heb 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, NKJV

Remember, the power of what you believe and confess,  once to believe and three times to confess. In other words, we need to confess it continually until it comes to pass.

Mark 11:12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it.  NKJV

Mark 11:20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.  26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”  NKJV

Our salvation depends on our confession of faith.

Matt 10:32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.  33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.  NKJV

Our healing is connected to the confession of the Word of God.

Prov 4:20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them,

And health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.

{ a mouth that speaks contrary to the Words of God}

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. 26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.  NKJV
