How to Prosper in Tough Times Lesson 1

This sermon is part 1 of 13 in the series Prosper in Tough Times

Should Christians Prosper ?

Ps 35:27 Let them shout for joy and be glad,

Who favor my righteous cause;

And let them say continually,

“Let the Lord be magnified,

Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”NKJV

Our Heavenly Father is Jehovah Jirah  “The Lord Our Provider “ He is not cheap !

Rom 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? NKJV

Ps 23:1 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. NKJV

Ps 34:10 but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. KJV

He is only limited by our measure of faith in His Word.

Ps 78:41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.  KJV

There should be no doubt about Our Heavenly Father’s attitude toward His children. Jesus summed it up perfectly in his own words.

John 10:10  10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. NKJV

Faith in God’s Word is our foundation. The same word that created the heavens and the earth and holds everything together is our assurance that Our Lord will do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think according to the power that works in us. Eph 3:20

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two‑edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. NKJV

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, NKJV

We are become heirs of Christ when we are born again . As Heirs, we become covenant partners

along with Abraham.

Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. NKJV

Although we have covenant rights, we also have covenant responsibilities . When we keep our part of the covenant God will surely keep his Word to us.

Deut 8: 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. NKJV

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. KJV

Thank the Lord that He has given us His written Word to illustrate to us that men and women of God should  prosper.

3 John 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

NKJV

Prosperous people of the Bible

Adam and Eve, Job, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon and many others.

Consider Job’s wealth , which was a result of his godly lifestyle.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East. NKJV

Job 1:8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.  NKJV

Some believe that fear in Job’s life about losing his wealth was what opened the door to satanic attack.

Job 3:24 I cannot eat for sighing; my groans pour out like water. 25 . What I dreaded has come true. 26 I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.”

Prosperity is the fruit of a life of faith and holiness. Just as poverty is the result of laziness, rebellion, and  greediness.

Prov 11: 24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich,And he who waters will also be watered himself. 26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. NKJV

The Lord has given us His Word to follow , so that we might prosper and give the witness to the lost world around us that Our Heavenly Father is our source of life and abundance.

2 Peter 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

NKJV

Our Lord Jesus took our poverty , which is a curse of the law, upon Himself so that we could prosper.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.”   11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.”   12 Yet the

law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.    NKJV

2 Cor 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. NKJV
