Communion Service

[jwplayer mediaid="2304"]The Communion is simple but profound. The Communion is for fellowship and sharing. The Communion is for joy and celebration. The Communion is for giving and receiving. Communion is for the entire body of Christ and for the individual believer. The Communion is for forgiving and receiving forgiveness .

The communion is for loving acceptance of one another  and for judgement. Today we will look at the principle of judgement in connection with the communion.

When it comes to judgement, God alone is judge. Only God is competent to judge our actions and our motives.

James 4:11 Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. 12 God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?  NLT

God is judge of the living and the dead.

1 Peter 4:5 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. NKJV

We must be mindful to avoid criticism , because it is a form of judgement.

Rom 14:10  we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.   11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”  12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way. NKJV

The Lord is not primarily motivated to judge people. Judgement is secondary to His mercy, which is His primary motivation.

John 3: 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. NKJV

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. NKJV

Judgements that have already occurred , that are recorded in God’s Word as a witness and a warning.

Judgement was pronounced upon the human race which still results in the death of all humans.

In addition to the judgement upon  the human race the devil was cursed with an eternal judgement

that is yet to come to full manifestation.  Gen. Chapter 3

The Flood  Gen. chapters 6-8

The inhabitants of the earth were warned of coming judgement for 120 years in the days of Noah.

The Confusion of the languages at the Tower of Babel Gen. 11:1-9

The people were commanded to live in predetermined areas of the earth but they refused God’s command and started to build a city to live in and were judged for their rebellion.

The judgement of the fallen angels who had sexual relationships with women and produced the giants.

Gen. 6 and Jude 1 , 2 pet 2 :4

Things we are not to judge.

Matt 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.  2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. NKJV

Luke 6:37 “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.  NKJV

Danger of Judging others

Rom 2:1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?  NKJV

Be careful not to develop a judgmental attitude toward sinners, because we use to do the same things before we came to Christ.

1 Cor 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.  NKJV

The apostle taught that judging creates pressure that is designed to force conformity. The Apostle taught the people at the church in Colosse that such pressure not only denies Christian freedom but also denies Christ’s lordship over His church.

Col 2: 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.  NKJV

We are called to judge ourselves when it comes to discipline and restoration.

1 Cor 5:1  It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles — that a man has his father’s wife! 2 And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed. 4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.   NKJV

1 Cor 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said,  “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”  25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. NKJV
