HEDGE — a thorn hedge (Is. 5:5), a stone wall (Ps. 80:12), or a fence or partition of any kind (Mark 12:1). Hedges helped protect vineyards from thieves and predators. They consisted of loose stones or thorny branches or bushes.

Integrity is our hedge.
Integrity is to character what a foundation is to a building. Without a proper foundation a building or a person will eventually fall. A classic example of this truth is the “Leaning Tower of Pisa” in Italy. This beautiful bell tower built centuries ago from white marble is now some 16ft from perpendicular. In due time , for whatever reason the foundation failed. The question naturally comes to mind, how can this be made right?

Contemporary examples

During the 1980’s we saw the Televangelists fall because of moral failure.

An invisible hedge of protection

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.

HEDGE
phragmos (5418) denotes any sort of fence, hedge, palings or wall (akin to phrasso, “to fence in, stop”). It is used (a) in its literal sense, in Matt. 21:33, lit. “(he put) a hedge (around)”; Mark 12:1; Luke 14:23; (b) metaphorically, of the “partition” which separated Gentile from Jew, which was broken down by Christ through the efficacy of His expiatory sacrifice, Eph. 2:14.

The bible uses three terms interchangeably which are: Hedge, Wall, Partition. They can be literal or symbolic. They can mean a defense or can be a means of separation. These terms are used both physically and spiritually.
